The DC Youth Orchestra Program (DCYOP) is an American instrumental music education program in Washington, D.C. 2010 – June, DC Youth Orchestra Program announces that it will be moving to the newly remodeled Eastern Senior High School.

The perfect program to introduce young children to the excitement and discipline of theatre. Whether their personality is outgoing or reserved, they can find success in this class. Our friendly teachers use games, storytelling, improvisation, puppetry, singing and movement in a creative and safe environment. Focus is on confidence, concentration, cooperation and FUN. Concludes with a joyous presentation of class work for family and friends.

MIDDLE PROGRAMAll Middle Program classes meet Monday- Friday, 9 AM- 4 PM**Extended day available until 5: 3. See details below. Week, Full- Day Classes for Grades 3- 4. A fantastic program specifically for 3rd & 4th grade students eager to learn about acting. Includes core acting classes of voice & movement, improvisation, scene study and musical theatre. New students are introduced to the excitement and craft of theatre. Returning students are challenged at a higher level.

Classwork is balanced with hands- on skills in theatre production and behind- the- scenes tours. Students moving up from the Junior Program will build on concepts introduced there. Culminates in an exuberant presentation of class work for family and friends on final class day. Week, Full- Day Classes for Grades 5- 1. New or Returning Students. Acting foundations in movement, voice and improvisation, plus specific techniques for theatre scenes and musical numbers. Previous theatre experience helpful but not required. Returning students are challenged at a higher level. Culminates in a high- energy presentation of class work for family and friends on final class day.

Students grouped by age. Full- Day Classes for Grades 6- 7. For Returning Students Only. For students desiring a longer Academy experience and the increased challenge of an extra week, exploring each core subject in greater detail. Culminates in a special presentation of scenes and other class work. Admission requires director’s approval and an admission workshop required for new “B” session students.

If you were in a B group last year, you do not need to attend the workshop. For older students wishing an accelerated challenge offering in- depth exploration of each subject area, advanced skills and career guidance. An intensive but joyous theatre experience.

Washington Ballet School, City Dance Ensemble, and other schools throughout the Washington DC area. This spring, American University entered an agreement with the Washington National Opera that established an affiliation between the university and the Washington National Opera Institute. The summer institute provides 15–18 year old high school singers and accompanists with high-caliber opera and.

Substance and intensity vary with age and experience. Stage Voice and Movement: Be bold.

A high- spirited class combining the fundamentals of voice and body work, assuring their integration into the actor. Vocal skills develop resonance, articulation, projection and effective communication. Movement and body skills develop strength, control, agility and physical expression.

Improvisation: Be fearless. Learn how to be in the moment and create theatre out of thin air! Improv will sharpen even the quickest wit and keep you on your toes.

A skill that is useful in theatre and in life, improv develops confidence, spontaneity, expression, fearlessness and teamwork. Musical Theatre: Be present. The sheer joy of being on stage!

An exciting way to develop characters, relationships, scenes and stage presence, while performing musical numbers from the great Broadway shows of today and yesterday. Scene Study: Be supportive. This class provides performance context for the fundamental training in body, voice, imagination and partnering. Study, rehearse and perform scenes from comedies and dramas, exploring text, character, relationships, blocking and style. New! Playmaking: Be creative. Craft original stories and translate them to the stage. A fantastic new class allowing each student to create characters and scenes based on their own imagination and then stage those scenes using classmates as the cast.

Learn play structure, composition, style and critique. New! Acting for Film: Be innovative. A very hands- on class that will introduce students to set etiquette, basic film terminology and roles, performance and auditioning techniques. For advanced students interested in a conservatory- type learning environment. Students will be selected for a Major and Minor Subjects and spend time only in those subjects instead of a full- day rotation. An intense, specific exploration into advanced material. Culminates in showcase of work.

We handle each traveling student on a case by case basis. Typically, we arrange an Academy host family with a student in the same session.
